21st Century Schools

SONY DSC21st Century Schools is a US Department of Education funded program that uses a coaching and collaborative teaching model to cultivate storytelling, literary, visual and media arts skills in students and teachers. Teaching Artists work alongside classroom teachers to integrate technology into existing curriculum and students use iPads to produce digital narratives that are shared at the end of each workshop.

Working to develop 21st Century Schools, Streetside Stories will serve in improving outcomes of high-need youth in three Bay Area school districts. For the last 24 years, Streetside Stories has worked across core school-day curricula improving achievement among high-need youth.

The current focus of education is on 21st Century learning and Common Core implementation. The products and iPad media labs developed by Streetside Stories will meet a growing need for tools and techniques addressing the integration of arts, 21st Century and Common Core English Language Arts educational practices. Tools developed by Streetside Stories for the 21st Century Schools Project will be available through www.streetside.org
