VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Help out during the school day:

» Work with our Storytelling Exchange program.
Storytelling Exchange volunteers inspire students to write the stories of their lives. They offer writing help one on one and facilitate small group discussions. Bilingual Spanish and Chinese speakers are especially welcome to help with our ESL classes.

Commitment:  Eight classes during a semester.

» Help kids create mini-movies.
Share your tech expertise in our Tech Tales program. During the Tech Tales program, students write stories about their lives and turn them into short movies using our mobile digital media lab. Tech Tales volunteers help students one on one with writing, storyboarding and basic film editing.  If you have used editing programs like iMovie or pick up new tech skills quickly, Tech Tales is the program for you.

Commitment:  Eight classes during a semester.

» Help out at Streetside Community Programs .
Help students write stories and poems about their lives, improve their reading skills, and sharpen their communication skills through theater, writing, and digital storytelling in Streetside Community Programs

Commitment:  Eight classes during a semester.

» Be an intern.
Internships are available in all of our programs. Click here to see our current internship opportunities. We also offer fundraising internships that teach skills in grant writing and event planning and an editorial internship that builds editing and project management skills! Know a way you’d like to help as an intern? Let us know!

Commitment: 6-8 hours per week, by semester.

Help out in the evenings or weekends:

» Folder-making parties:
Spend an evening creating journals and folders for students to use during the workshop.

Commitment: Flexible

» Typist Corp:
Our students hand write their stories and we need help typing them for our annual anthology. If you have a couple of hours here and there to come by our office and type, we'd love your help!

Commitment: Flexible

» Mailing Parties :
Come into our main office and help us put together newsletter, appeals and other mailings! Meet other volunteers and spend a couple of hours putting together materials.

Commitment: Flexible

Bring your volunteer group:

We're looking to schedule volunteer groups for the week of October 25-29th, 2010! From mailing parties to folder prep to events like Raising Voices, the fall is a great time for group volunteer events at Streetside. Contact us if you're interested in bringing your fraternity/sorority, community group, PTA, corporate team or just a few of your favorite friends to help out while you hang out!

"It all started last year when I was in sixth grade. I went into my first and second period class and sat down. That's when I saw her. She was sitting in front of me, and I had a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach..."
